The Ulster County Office of Employment and Training is pleased to announce that they are now accepting applications for their 2017 Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). The applications can be downloaded from their website here: http://www.ulsterworks.com/summer-youth . SYEP offers young people ages 14 to 20 years old a paid work experience for 5 weeks starting around June 26th.

That’s a piece of advice from Theodor Seuss Geisel, who, as Dr. Seuss, wrote more than 50 titles and inspired dozens more. And his wise recommendation was thoroughly embraced by the scores of grown-ups who visited Ellenville Elementary School on March 3 to read aloud to the young students.

The New York State Education Department made important changes to the exams last school year which greatly improved the experience that students had in taking the exams. For starters, the English Language Arts and Mathematics tests allowed students who were working productively to continue working past the minimum testing time.

The Ellenville High School Music Department presented its Autumn Concert the evening of Nov. 9. The event included performances by the Festival Choir, the Symphonic Band, the Women’s Choir, the Jazz Ensemble, and the Chamber Singers, who are conducted by David Trombley and were joined by guest violist Akiko Hosoi.
