As part of the Ellenville Elementary School library program, Elementary School students have the opportunity to work on creating and editing 'The Youngsters Radio Show'. The students come up with the ideas, write, research, and edit all the stories. They also select all the music that is played. This year for their last show they did a special at home COVID edition. We met as usual on Tuesday mornings via Google Meets and Caige, Cody, Victoria, Maegann, Brooklyn, Destinee and Isabelle worked at home to create our last show of the year.

On June 4, 2020, New York State Department of Health released Interim Guidance for Graduation Celebrations During the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency which is aligned to Governor Cuomo’s current mandates The document includes guidance on a variety of ceremony types that schools are permitted to hold for students in honor of their graduation. Schools across the State are still encouraged to celebrate graduations, but any celebration must be done while maintaining public health precautions for COVID-19

Dear parents and guardians: As you are aware, the buildings will remain closed for the remainder of the academic year. We understand that many students have personal belongings in their classrooms and/or lockers that need to be picked up and that students are in possession of District property that needs to be returned. This includes: Athletic Uniforms/Equipment, Calculators, Library Books, Textbooks or any other items that were loaned by a teacher or the District. Students in grades K - 11 will be keeping their Chromebooks over the summer. Graduating seniors and students not returning for the next academic year will need to return their Chromebook and charger. Enclosed is information regarding the schedule and procedures for the pickup of student belongings and return of district property.

Pursuant to Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order 202.26, only qualified voters are permitted to vote via absentee ballot for the Annual Meeting, Election and Budget Vote to be held on June 9, 2020. Although all qualified voters are required to receive an absentee ballot, the Ellenville Central School District may currently possess only the names and addresses of voters who have previously registered to vote in school district elections either with the Ulster County Board of Elections or the District. If you have not previously registered to vote either with the District or the Ulster County Board of Elections or the District, we encourage you to complete and submit this form. This form should be returned by June 2, 2020.

Even though your children are not physically attending school, the yearbook staff continues to work hard on capturing all of the events of this time for what will be the only official time capsule of the year. Today, Thursday, April 23, we were notified that we have an essential staff member who has tested positive for novel coronavirus (COVID-19), and two other essential staff members who are undergoing testing. Out of an abundance of caution, the buildings, which have only been open for essential services, will now be completely closed for the next two weeks to allow time to thoroughly clean and sanitize. Staff will continue to work remotely and will be checking emails regularly. Distance learning will continue and all food deliveries will resume as scheduled. If you have any questions, please contact your main office. In closing, please continue to be safe. Each individual plays an important role in preventing the spread of this illness.

Please make sure you are checking in with your teachers on Google Classroom and your school email account for more information on these assignments. Additionally, you may be receiving an increase in phone calls with a restricted or unknown phone number. Teachers and counselors have been placing phone calls through Google Hangouts which does block the incoming phone number. Please get in the habit of answering these calls, if possible. Also, if you have not already done so, please check your student email to complete the elective course preferences form for next school year. The census is completed every 10 years and its data is used in a variety of ways, from determining how many members of Congress a state will get to how billions of dollars of federal funds will be spent. Need something to brighten your day? Take a look at the beautiful daffodils that have bloomed outside of Ellenville Elementary School. The flower bulbs were planted by Grade 2 students last fall, as part of a project inspired by their Superkids Reading Program. So many individuals were involved in the planting, from Board of Education members and school district administrators to maintenance staff and other volunteers. Thank you to Mrs. Wright for taking pictures of the daffodils and digitally sharing them with Grade 2 students so they could see proof that spring has sprung!

Due to the forecasted inclement weather, food distribution as well as Chromebook and learning packet pickups scheduled for Monday, March 23, have been rescheduled to Tuesday, March 24. Both High school and Middle School Chromebook pickup will be held on Tuesday, March 24. Chromebook pickup for the Elementary school will be held as scheduled on Wednesday, March 25. On Thursday, March 26, Chromebook pickup will be available for those unable to come on the previous days. For families with children in multiple buildings, those Chromebooks may be picked up at the same time.

Student Breakfast & Lunch Distribution

Beginning this Thursday, and then each Monday and Wednesday thereafter, we will be distributing bagged breakfasts and lunches, for our students, at no charge, by bus and for pickup. Households with a student who is eligible to ride a bus will have their meals delivered to their bus stop. Anyone wishing to receive meals should plan on being out at their morning bus stop 10 minutes before and 10 minutes after their normally scheduled elementary stop time, which is 1 hour after high or middle school morning bus stop time. Households with only all walkers will be able to pick up their meals in the school parking lot from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. Parents are responsible for knowing their child’s food allergies and dietary restrictions. Whenever possible please limit the number of people who are picking up the meals. If you have any questions please call the District business office at 647 - 0115. *** School meal pickup and delivery update *** We will be adjusting meal delivery times for students who are eligible to ride a bus. A schedule will be posted so parents have a better idea of what time the bus will be passing by.

We are proud to announce that several Varsity teams from Ellenville High School have been named Scholar-Athlete Team Award recipients for the Winter 2019-2020 season. In order to meet this designation, given by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, 75 percent of our team members had to have a combined GPA of 90 percent or higher during the Second Quarter Marking Period.

If they win, they will play in the semi-final round on Tuesday, March 3. The Boy's Varsity Basketball team has qualified as the number 6 seed. Congratulations Varsity Girl's Indoor Track and Field - 2020 Section 9 Class B Champions! On Saturday, February 15th, our Girl's Indoor Track and Field Team earned their second consecutive Class B championship. Ellenville scored 92 points in claiming this title. Marlboro (52 points) finished in second place and Liberty (47.5 points) finished in third. Our team is led by Head Coach Andrew Garigliano and assisted by Linda Trapani. Congratulations to all of our athletes and coaching staff on this exemplary accomplishment. We are extremely proud of their efforts this season. Go Blue Devils!!!

Applications for membership into the EHS chapter of National Honor Society will be out in the next few weeks. For initial consideration by the NHS Faculty Committee, the student must be a member of the Class of 2021 having an 88 or higher cumulative GPA at the end of their 5th semester in EHS. Once you have received an application, you will need to provide: one confidential letter of recommendation; a record of participation, service, and leadership in school and local community activities; and a completed application form demonstrating understanding and reflection regarding the four pillars which govern National Honor Society: character, scholarship, leadership, and service. UPDATE: Our semi-final game is tomorrow beginning at 5:00 p.m. If we win, we will play Friday at 7:00 p.m. Both games will be at SUNY Ulster. | Our Varsity Boy's Basketball Team has earned a spot in the upcoming MHAL Boy's Basketball Championships for the second consecutive season. The team plays in the Semi-Final round on Thursday, February 21st at 5:00 p.m. at SUNY Ulster. Our first round opponent is Millbrook. Admission is $5.00 per person and children under school age will be admitted for free. If we win, the championship game will be on Friday, February 22nd and begin at 7:00 p.m.

Ellenville High School is pleased to announce that several teams have been named Scholar-Athlete Team Award recipients for the Fall 2018 season. In order to qualify for this designation, 75 percent of team members had to have a combined GPA of 90 percent or higher during the First Quarter Marking Period.

Pre-K and K Open House is set for Wednesday, September 5, beginning at 5:30 in the Music Assembly Room. This is a wonderful opportunity for you and your child to come to the school to meet your child’s teacher and visit the classroom. The evening will consist of some informational sessions for you and your child, along with time in the classroom with your child’s teacher. Bus passes will be handed out by the Pre-K/K teachers and the nurse will be here to answer any questions you may have. The Ellenville Police Department recently became a certified Opiate Overdose program center for the training of the administration and distribution of Naloxone (Nar Can). This agency announces that it will conduct a free training to anyone interested in becoming certified in the administration of Naloxone. The course will be conducted by our New York State trained and certified instructors. The course will take about 90 minutes to complete for those that are interested in taking this program.

Ellenville High School is proud to announce that two of our 2017 Graduates, Carly Craft and Zachary Alexander, were published in New Voices, New Visions, which is the "Yearly collection of the best writing at the State University of New York, New Paltz Composition Program." Carly and Zachary were enrolled in SUNY New Paltz's Composition I and Composition II (College English) with Mrs. Fagan during the 2016-2017 school year. The students will be honored at a ceremony at SUNY New Paltz in October.

The Ulster County Office of Employment and Training is pleased to announce that they are now accepting applications for their 2017 Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). The applications can be downloaded from their website here: http://www.ulsterworks.com/summer-youth . SYEP offers young people ages 14 to 20 years old a paid work experience for 5 weeks starting around June 26th.

That’s a piece of advice from Theodor Seuss Geisel, who, as Dr. Seuss, wrote more than 50 titles and inspired dozens more. And his wise recommendation was thoroughly embraced by the scores of grown-ups who visited Ellenville Elementary School on March 3 to read aloud to the young students.

The New York State Education Department made important changes to the exams last school year which greatly improved the experience that students had in taking the exams. For starters, the English Language Arts and Mathematics tests allowed students who were working productively to continue working past the minimum testing time.

The Ellenville High School Music Department presented its Autumn Concert the evening of Nov. 9. The event included performances by the Festival Choir, the Symphonic Band, the Women’s Choir, the Jazz Ensemble, and the Chamber Singers, who are conducted by David Trombley and were joined by guest violist Akiko Hosoi.
