May 25 - Tonight’s Girls Varsity Softball Semi Finals game against Marlboro has been rescheduled for 5 p.m. tomorrow, Friday, May 26, at the Berme Road field.

As originally scheduled (7 p.m. Thursday, May 25), the game conflicted with Marlboro’s prom, and Marlboro requested a time change. Ellenville agreed to move the game to 5 p.m., a time that would still allow working parents to attend. Unfortunately, this change did not resolve Marlboro’s dilemma, and many adults took to social media to express their disappointment. As it turns out, the weather intervened.

Our hope, though, is that this has been a teaching moment. This is a busy time of year and conflicts often arise, and while rescheduling may solve one problem, it invariably creates new scheduling conflicts for players and staff. Each of our student athletes can likely site an example of when they missed a class trip, a dance, or a family event because of an important game or match.

Prioritizing and making those difficult decisions prepares students for the choices they’ll make as adults. Our mission as educators is to teach all our students how to contend with challenges, honor their commitments, and face defeat, disappointment, and victory with dignity, grace, and sportsmanship.

We are so very proud of our Varsity Softball team and their accomplishments both on and off the field. Go Blue Devils!
