The importance of access to devices and broadband has been highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and this access will remain necessary in the future. Digital equity is essential for educational equity. To do this, the District will survey families on an annual basis. Please read the enclosed letter from Superintendent Wiles for more information regarding the survey; the link to the survey (enclosed) will also be emailed to parents/guardians who have provided their email address to the District.

Dear Parents/Guardians of 7 - 12 Students: The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the procedure for requesting full remote (off-site) instruction for your child. Our current reopening plan has students in grades 7 - 12 participating in a full remote instructional model, but plans on transitioning to a hybrid model in the late fall where students in grades 7 - 12 would report for in-person learning on a rotating basis. The District understands the need to provide an option for students to remain fully remote when we transition to the hybrid model under the following circumstances:your child is in the high risk category; your child resides with an individual(s) in the high risk category; and/or you are not comfortable having your child attend in-person instruction.

Ellenville Middle School: Distance/Remote Learning Plan
08/26/2020
Usually this letter welcoming everyone back is more of a formality signaling the beginning of a new school year for everyone. However, the 2020-21 school year will be far from what we would ordinarily expect from a school year. To begin, in September, all students will attend school remotely through October 5, 2020. While not the preferred experience for students in middle school, the District has made safety a priority and the delay of in person learning gives the District more time to adhere to the newer guidelines provided by the State of New York. While all of you reading this are likely to remember the distance/remote learning that occurred last school year when COVID-19 hit, we are confident that this year’s distance/remote learning experience will be different. None of us in the middle school believe that remote instruction is the best way for middle school students to engage in their educational experiences. However, given the hand that we are dealt with circumstances beyond our control, we will do the best we can to get students back in the building as safely as possible. The middle school has put together an “EMS Distance/Remote Learning Plan: A Guide for Families.” If you have any questions regarding this plan, please contact the main office.

Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year. I hope this letter finds you and your loved ones doing well. As we continue to navigate uncertainties due to COVID-19, the top priorities for Ellenville Central School District are the physical, academic and social/emotional health of our students and faculty/staff. The first day of classes will begin on Tuesday, September 8, 2020. As the Ellenville Central School District and schools across the nation transition into the 2020-2021 school year, many unknowns still exist in the educational world. Given the ever changing landscape caused by COVID-19, we have been carefully considering how we can safely welcome our students and staff back to campus this fall. With guidance from local health officials and other experts, we have worked diligently to prepare to do this. Our plan will continue to focus on safety as a top priority as we move forward, creating a safe environment for students to continue their learning and the development of the social and emotional connections necessary for growth. As we prepare to open school for the 2020-2021 school year, we will be beginning the year with our Distance/Remote Instructional Model from September 8th through October 2nd.

Letter from the Superintendent: Postponed Reopening
08/13/2020
Dear Parents/Guardians, The impact of the COVID-19 health crisis continues to pose challenges on public education and has led the District to make very difficult and unpopular decisions regarding reopening our doors to students this September. After much deliberation, the District has decided to delay the implementation of the K-6 in-person hybrid model until October 5, 2020. Therefore, grades K-12 will be 100% remote until October 5. Our plans must remain flexible and we will continue to reassess and make decisions based on the health and safety of our students and staff. This decision was made to ensure that all health and safety protocols, including testing and contact tracing requirements, can be followed. Additionally, students and teachers will have the time to get familiar with live on-line (synchronous) instruction, which is very different from what students and teachers experienced this past spring. Throughout the summer, our staff has been working very hard to improve the on-line learning experiences for our students. In the coming days, each school will be providing the details of their remote learning schedules.
