Dear Pre-K and Kindergarten Parents/Guardians:

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to your family. I am Nicole Ey, the new Ellenville Elementary Principal. It is with great enthusiasm and dedication that I take on this position, and I look forward to building a relationship with each one of you.

Starting Pre-K and Kindergarten is an exciting and important moment for both you and your child. It is my pleasure and greatest honor to welcome you for an exceptional year. We are all excited to have students back in our classrooms and hallways, filling them with energy and enthusiasm for learning, as well as, their infectious laughter and love of life. It is our mission to help every child feel welcomed, connected, and a part of the Ellenville family.

Open House will be held Wednesday, September 5 from 5:30-7:30 (Pre-K/K students ONLY.) This is a wonderful opportunity for you and your child to come to the school to meet your child’s teacher and visit the classroom.

  • This will take the place of the Visitation Day on the first day of school. Therefore, parents will not be allowed to escort their child into the building/classroom.
  • Bus information will be given at Open House.
  • Pre-K/K students will have a regular full day of school on September 6.

This year will be filled with many new and continued initiatives. We will continue our focus on: Superkids Reading Program in grades Pre-K-2, implementing more technology in the hands of the children, Google Classroom, Math/Literacy and Movement, as well as, begin the task of unpacking and aligning our already in-depth curriculum with the new New York State Next Generation Learning Standards.

In addition to the ongoing initiatives throughout our building, we plan to incorporate a few new ones to focus on as well: student initiatives, improving student attendance, common school rules, and intervention/enrichment opportunities. Summer is a chance to evaluate our building, procedures, protocol and ongoing initiatives. Our summer reflection time allows us to make what is already great even better and to rework those areas that are in need of attention. Each September offers a fresh start and a new opportunity to implement initiatives that will ultimately make our school a better place to learn and grow.

I believe, as building principal, the safety of the students and staff is of utmost importance. In light of recent school safety incidents nationwide, we will be implementing a new arrival/dismissal procedure to maintain a safe and healthy school environment beginning with the first day of school. Keeping safety in mind, we still encourage you to play an active role in your child’s education. It important to bridge home and school for the growth of our students, it is also vital to build a strong student/teacher/parent relationship. Please know our teachers are here to nurture and encourage students throughout the day, but it will be your participation in family nights, PTO events, open houses, and parent teacher conferences that will help keep the lines of communication between home and school open.

Once again, I am elated to get to know you and your family over the coming school year. I am optimistic that, together, we will have a productive and memorable school year! Please enjoy the rest of your summer and know that we are eagerly awaiting the arrival your child who we hope are just as eager to learn!

It is the goal of the entire faculty to make EES an exciting place for students to learn, explore, grow and create memories that will last a lifetime. We welcome any questions you may have prior to the start of the new school year. Our office is open from 7:30am to 3:00pm.
