In December 2014, voters in the Ellenville School District overwhelmingly approved a $14.4 million Capital Project which includes safety, infrastructure and energy efficiency upgrades to all three of the District’s schools. About 76 percent, or about $10.9 million, will be funded by New York State Building Aid.
The project includes replacing several end-of-life systems, including upgrades to two major components: converting the Elementary School’s 1955 steam heat system to more efficient hot water, and providing new roofs for the three schools. A detailed list of all the work can be found at
Resource List Page
Converting the antiquated heating system is expected to result in an energy cost saving of about 25-30 percent for that section of the elementary and should to pay for itself in its lifetime.
The Capital Project also includes safety and efficiency updates throughout the buildings, such as new fire alarm systems, the replacement of asbestos tiles in several classrooms, safety upgrades to the auditorium, several new windows, and a canopied walkway between the Middle and Elementary Schools.
These exciting improvements, repairs and renovations will be made over the next two years or so - most of it over the summers of 2016 and 2017, so classes won’t be disrupted - and we’ll post updates on our Capital Projects webpage.
