Dear Parents and Guardians:

I want to ensure that all parents are aware of Governor Cuomo’s updated mandate for schools to remain closed through April 1, 2020. As a reminder, this situation is fluid and the return date is subject to change. We will continue to keep you updated as we receive further information from the State and county. Your support and patience while we navigate this new experience is appreciated. Our committed team of educators have been working hard to plan and prepare continuous learning activities for your child during the time which school is closed. These learning activities will provide your child a review of previously learned material. No new content is being presented at this time. While completion of these learning activities is not mandated, they provide an opportunity for continuity of education until school reopens. We encourage all students to take advantage of the learning activities to minimize the loss of momentum and academic progress. Our plan is as follows:

Through April 1, 2020:

The days that school is not in session from March 16, 2020 through April 1, 2020 are considered emergency closing days. As a result, Spring Break is no longer scheduled as originally planned. Historically, instruction is not provided to students during extended school breaks. However, given the unique circumstances the district is providing continuous learning activities to students. A link to these activities can be found on the District website at www.ecs.k12.ny.us. Please click on the Continuous Learning Opportunities for Parents and Students at the top of the District Home Page.

After April 1, 2020:

If school continues to be closed after April 1, 2020, continuous learning activities will be provided by teachers. Additional information regarding accessing these learning activities will be shared once available. We are in the process of preparing plans in the event that we do not open school on April 2nd. We will continue to provide that information as it becomes available.

Chromebooks to Access Online Materials: (*Requires Internet Access*)

Recently, a survey was sent via Facebook and email to determine the level of accessibility to the internet and personal computing devices. While the responses do not represent the entire school community, the results indicate that there are many students who need access to a Chromebook. If your child needs a Chromebook, pick up of devices is as follows:

Enclosed is a copy of the Technology Loan Form (PDF) which must be completed in order for your child to receive a Chromebook. If your child is picking up their Chromebook on their own, or if another adult is picking up a Chromebook on your behalf, this form must be completed and sent with whomever is picking up the device.

Antes del 1 de abril de 2020:

Si no tiene acceso al Internet, comuníquese con la oficina principal de la escuela de su hijo para que puedan recibir copias de los materiales de aprendizaje.
