Class of 2021 Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony to be held Saturday, October 16

After having to postpone last year’s event due to COVID, Ellenville will be honoring its Class of 2021 Athletic Hall of Fame inductees during a ceremony on Saturday, October 16. The event will take place at Ellenville High School’s Stadium Field beginning at 12 PM, and will recognize four accomplished Ellenville athletes along with one outstanding coach.
The group of 2021 inductees include wrestling standouts Anibal and Alberto Nieves. The brothers graduated from Ellenville in 1984 and together they combine for a lengthy list of notable accomplishments on the State, national, and international levels.
Joining the Nieves brothers in the latest class is Danielle Borriello. Boriello is a 2014 EHS graduate and is being inducted for her accomplishments in track and field, including a New York State Championship in the discus event.
Aimee Capello, a 1992 graduate, is being honored as one of the best overall softball players in Ellenville history. Capello is the only player to have competed for five years on the varsity team and finished with a .404 career batting average.
Rounding out the Class of 2021 is former Ellenville coach Lance Lewin. Lewin successfully coached several sports in his three decades at Ellenville, but was best known for leading the Blue Devils softball team to a New York State 2nd place finish—the most successful season of any Ellenville team in history.
Also taking place during the Hall of Fame weekend in Ellenville will be three Varsity athletic events. First up, the Varsity Football team will take on Sullivan West on Friday, October 15, at 7 PM. On Saturday, October 16, the Varsity Boys Soccer team will play Saugerties at 2 PM, and the Varsity Girls Soccer team will play Tri-Valley at 4 PM.
