Ellenville Senior High School Names Top Students

  Ellenville Senior High School (ESHS) is proud to announce that Sameea Khan has been named valedictorian of the Class of 2022 and Walter Evans is this year’s salutatorian. These students not only excelled academically during their high school careers, but in a wide array of sports and extracurricular activities as well. 

        Sameea currently holds a weighted GPA of 98.9. She is a member of the National Honor Society, and has earned a place on the High Honor Roll throughout high school. She has taken many Advanced Placement (AP) classes, including AP World History and AP Government, and has earned college credits in English and Biology through the school’s Early College Program. 

Sameea is the daughter of Hosneara and Mohi Khan of Ellenville. In addition to her studies, she has earned several awards for her contributions to the Tennis team, where she serves as captain and plays first singles as the highest ranking member. She is also involved in scenic design for the Drama Club and participates in Track. Sameea is a dedicated artist both in the Art Club and in the community, where she says she enjoys incorporating the nature of Ellenville into her works. 

Upon graduating from Ellenville, Sameea plans to major in Computer Science, and after being accepted at six colleges, she is currently deciding which school she would like to attend this fall. As for her achievement as valedictorian, Sameea says, “I feel extremely proud of myself. All of the hard work I did finally paid off, and it feels like I can finally relax.”

With a weighted GPA of 98, Walter is ranked second in his class at ESHS. He is the president of the National Honor Society, and has maintained placement on the High Honor Roll all throughout his high school career. He also has earned college credits in English and Biology by taking part in the school’s Early College Program.
Walter is very involved at ESHS. He is the secretary of the Student Council, participates in chorus, and competes in many sports. He is the captain of the Varsity Football team, where he was named Defensive Most Valuable Player (MVP) three times; captain of the Wrestling team, and a member of Varsity Track. With Walter on the team, the Football team has made it to Sectionals three times, and the Wrestling team has been two-time Sectional finalists.

In addition to participating in school sports, Walter volunteered for many years at a local Youth Wrestling Clinic, helping younger wrestlers learn moves and improve their game. He is also an avid snowboarder.
The son of Walter and Natalie Evans of Ellenville, Walter is interested in studying Business Administration, and is thinking of attending Saint John Fisher College in the fall. Of his achievement as salutatorian, Walter says, “I am very proud of earning the title salutatorian. I feel like all of the hard work and late nights studying have finally paid off.”
