Dear Ellenville Staff and Families:

Yesterday, it was discovered that an Ellenville Junior High School student had brought an 8 inch kitchen knife into the school building with the intent to harm a staff member.

The student turned the knife over to an administrator without incident and local police were notified immediately. Police then took the student to a local hospital for evaluation.

The student has been suspended from school and is subject to disciplinary action as outlined by the District Code of Conduct. Ellenville Police are investigating and have advised that criminal charges are pending. Due to privacy regulations the student’s name will not be released.

Please know that the safety of all our students and staff is always a top priority. The incident was resolved quickly and professionally.

Sincerely,
Lisa A. Wiles
Superintendent of Schools
