The Ellenville Central School District is pleased to announce the launch of Farm2School programming in partnership with the Ellenville Regional Hospital Rural Health Network. Farm2School is an agricultural education initiative funded by the USDA and the New York State Farm to Institute that aims to bring farming, gardening, food access, positive health, and wellness to students, staff, and the community.
The program will offer Just A Bite and Harvest of the Month activities where students can sample fresh local farm-grown produce, learn about nutrition and wellness, and participate in fun forms of feedback to help build a sustainable, student-led agricultural program.
Gardening on a Shoe String Budget will begin as a hybrid, online program with socially distanced, in-person lessons held at the community garden at the Ellenville Regional Hospital now, and at the Ellenville School Garden and Warren Street Community Garden in the future. Future offerings will include supplemental lessons and activities such as breakfast in the garden, seed starting, egg hatching, rabbit raising, and eventually field trips to local farms for teachers and students.
Participation in any of these programs is free.
