On May 7, in the Jr/Sr High School auditorium, 26 students from the Class of 2026 were inducted into the National Honor Society (NHS), committing to pursuing academic excellence while serving their school and community.
Briana Mangram, Ellenville's NHS Advisor, gave opening remarks, then the Class of 2025 NHS officers introduced the four pillars of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
Meredith Smith, assistant principal of the Jr/Sr High School, addressed the students and their families: "This is no small achievement, and we are proud of each and every one of you. To the families and loved ones who are joining us here this evening, thank you. All your support, encouragement, and guidance have helped to shape these remarkable young people, so tonight is a celebration of them, but it is also a celebration of you and everything that you've done to help get to this point."
This year's keynote speaker, selected by the students, was Earth Science teacher Adam Kroger. He emphasized that membership in the NHS means more than just good grades and attendance. He spoke about how NHS students show respect to create a welcoming environment, take responsibility for their actions, and demonstrate pride in their school and community by supporting one another and striving to make positive changes.
