Ellenville Jr/Sr High School is proud to announce that Scott Ramos and Lyla Denman have been selected as the school's 2026 Mid-Hudson Athletic League (MHAL) Scholar-Athletes.
The prestigious honor is awarded annually to two students from each school in the league who exemplify excellence both academically and athletically. Lyla and Scott were recognized at the MHAL Scholar-Athlete Breakfast on May 28, where they received their awards alongside family members, coaches, and school administrators.
Scott Ramos
Scott has distinguished himself as both a scholar and an athlete throughout his high school career. Ranked second in his graduating class and serving as the school's salutatorian, Scott has excelled in the classroom while participating in soccer, cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track.
A standout leader on the field, Scott served as captain of the soccer team, earned Section IX All-Star honors, was named Most Valuable Player for soccer, and accumulated an impressive 14 Varsity letters during his high school career.
Beyond athletics, Scott is actively involved in the National Honor Society, Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP), Spanish Honor Society—where he serves as president—and the Puerto Rican/Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute.
His commitment to service includes working as a soccer referee, providing Spanish tutoring, delivering food to families in need, and participating in a mentorship program supporting students from Grades 6-12.
This fall, Scott will attend Providence College, where he plans to begin his college studies as an undeclared major.
Lyla Denman
Lyla has also demonstrated exceptional achievement both in the classroom and in athletics. Ranked third in her graduating class, she has been a standout competitor in Varsity Girls Soccer and Varsity Girls Softball.
Her athletic accomplishments include serving as captain of the Varsity Girls Soccer team for the 2025-2026 season, earning the Varsity Girls Soccer Coaches Award (2025–2026), serving as captain of the Varsity Girls Softball team in 2025 and 2026, and receiving the Varsity Girls Softball Player of the Year Award in 2024.
Lyla is a member of both the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society. She has also dedicated significant time to community service as a volunteer referee for the local AYSO league, an after-school Spanish tutor, a mentor for the Ellenville Junior High Drama Club, and a volunteer with both the Ellenville Nursery School's Blueberry Festival and the Ellenville Elks Lodge.
In the fall, Lyla will attend SUNY Geneseo, where she plans to major in Political Science. She hopes to continue on to law school and pursue a career as a civil rights attorney.
Ellenville Jr/Sr High School congratulates Lyla and Scott on this outstanding achievement. Their dedication, leadership, academic excellence, athletic success, and commitment to serving others make them exceptional representatives of the Ellenville community. We wish them continued success as they begin the next chapter of their educational journeys.
