Temporary Housing & Education Rights

The McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Act is a federal law that focuses on providing equal access to educational opportunities for students living in temporary housing (i.e. homeless children & youth). In addition to free public education, the law provides for connections to services giving opportunities for students to succeed.

Ellenville Central School District provides a McKinney-Vento liaison to assist families and students experiencing homelessness with connections between school personnel, shelters, social services, and other resources and providers.
