Dear Parents/Guardians:

As you may already know, a solar eclipse will be visible in New York on the afternoon of April 8, 2024.  While Ellenville is not on the path of the total solar eclipse, we will experience a partial solar eclipse (89.94%) from 2:10 PM to 4:36 PM, which overlaps with the regular dismissal times for our buildings.  As a result, we will have an early dismissal for students on Monday, April 8, 2024.  Dismissal times are as follows:

Jr/Sr High School - 11:15 AM
Elementary School - 12:15 PM

Viewing a solar eclipse without specialized eye protection is unsafe and we are concerned that students may want to view what is occurring in the sky at a time when adequate adult supervision may not be available.

The district will be distributing specialized eye protection for all students to take home with them on April 8th so that under adult supervision, they can safely view the eclipse.  More information about the Eclipse may be found here.

Sincerely,

Lisa A. Wiles
Superintendent of Schools
