Eva Orfanos, a Grade 11 student at Ellenville Jr/Sr High School, who won a first place award in the "Capturing Our Rural Stories" photo contest held by the Rural Schools Association of New York State

Congratulations to Eva Orfanos, a Grade 11 student at Ellenville Jr/Sr High School, for winning a first place award in the "Capturing Our Rural Stories" photo contest held by the Rural Schools Association of New York State!

Eva's winning photo, "Teen Awareness," took first prize in the "Student Life" category, capturing a glimpse of Eva's highly involved student life and Ellenville spirit. As an active member of Tim Lukaszewski's TV/Radio class, Eva created this powerful image featuring classmate (and Ellenville valedictorian) Gabriel Julca filming for their County-wide project focused on teen drinking and vaping awareness. Of her work, Eva shares, "Using our resources from our TV and Radio class, we are trying to send out a visible message to inform those of the harm to teens."

As a dedicated participant in Ellenville's TV/Radio program, Eva continues to develop her skills behind the camera, which she extends to the community. She recently volunteered to capture footage for an exhibition opening at the Borscht Belt Museum.

Eva will be formally recognized with an award and cash prize for her outstanding achievement. Find Eva's and other winning submissions on the Rural Schools Association website: https://rsany.org/photocontest/
