The Ellenville Central School District Board of Education is deeply saddened and shocked by the sudden passing of Reverend Julius Collins, Vice President of the Ellenville Board of Education.
Reverend Collins was a 31-year member of the Board of Education and a dedicated advocate for the students, families, staff, and community of the Ellenville Central School District.
During his 31-year tenure. Reverend Collins served the district with commitment, compassion, and an unwavering belief in the importance of public education. Through his service on the Board, Reverend Collins played an important role in helping shape the future of the district and remained steadfast in his commitment to providing students with opportunities to learn, grow, and succeed.
President of the Board of Education Philip S. Mattracion stated, “Reverend Collins will leave a lasting mark on this district. I am grateful for his dedication, time, energy, and care that he gave in his service to the Board and to the generations of students and families that he had and will always have an impact on. I knew Reverend Collins not only in my role as Board President, but in my capacity as Police Chief for the Village of Ellenville. He was a champion for equality and justice, but make no mistake about it, he was fair, but if you did wrong, he believed you had to pay the consequences for your actions. He was a devoted public servant, a thoughtful and empathetic colleague, and a person who genuinely cared about every member of our community and district. On behalf of the members of the Ellenville Board of Education. Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences are with his wife, Vernice, their entire family, and all who had the honor and privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace, our friend.”
During this difficult time, please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers as they grieve the tragic loss of their loved one.
Respectfully,
Philip S. Mattracion
President
Ellenville Central School District Board of Education
