New York State is launching Summer EBT, a new program that provides low-income families with food benefits to help buy groceries during the summer when kids might not have access to school meals. Most eligible children will receive Summer EBT food benefits automatically; however, some families may need to apply. For more information, visit https://otda.ny.gov/programs/summer-ebt/

Congratulations to Ellenville Junior/Senior High School student Sarai Cruz! Sarai, who is a senior in Rhiannon Fagan's College English class, recently submitted her portfolio for Writing and Rhetoric (ENG 170), and she earned an "Exceeds," which means her writing has exceeded SUNY New Paltz's Writing and Rhetoric Program's expectations! Sarai explained that being given the opportunity to work on her portfolio “allowed me to genuinely and honestly reflect on my growth as a writer over the course of my senior year. Analyzing the difference in both my aptitude in, and comfort with, writing from September until now demonstrated how much I learned. The course encouraged me to use my voice in the form of advocacy, and to be fearless in sharing my opinions. Overall, I have become a much stronger writer as a result of the knowledge I gained from taking the course." According to Fagan, "Sarai has continually dedicated herself to the writing process, and she has pushed herself to explore compelling topics while entering academic, political, and social discussions through her writing." Sarai plans to pursue a career in secondary English education, and this accomplishment will undoubtedly be the first of many in this field!
